MEERUT CANTONMENT: HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

Meerut cantt is the place where first salvo was fired in year 1857 when the first war of Independence was started. "Kali Paltan" to which Mangal Pandey is associated, is situated right in the midst of this historical Cantonment. It was established in early 19th century after the Battle of Laswari. It is situated between rivers Ganga & Jamuna. It is well connected with the rest of Country by Roads and Rail. The Delhi Niti Paas Road (State Highway No. 45 also known as GT Road) passes through Meerut Cantonment.
